I know all you Superchief readers have been waiting with baited breath, but The Brooklyn Book Festival is almost upon us! Now for you uncultured fucks wondering exactly what this is; Brooklyn Book Festival is the largest free literary event in New York City. Featuring national and international literary stars as well as new authors. So dust off your handcrafted bookmarks and oversized reading glasses because Brooklyn Book Festival is more than just a place to find a meet hot librarians. It’s also a place to see some pretty cool speakers, even if the last book review you’ve seen was on Reading Rainbow.
TO JUMP START BOOK FEST, COME TO OUR LITERARY TAILGATE EVENT! We partnered with Make Magazine, a literary mag from Chicago, to host a night of beers, brats & ”football-themed, action packed readings” in which anyone can be involved. Then the crew will be heading to a bar (TBA) for the Giants game. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, football fans DO enjoy reading on occasion.
When: Thurs Sept 20th 6pm-8pm
Here are some of the highlights for the week(s):
Tonight at 7PM, at Public Assembly you can check out The Greatest 3-Minute Book Stories where authors, editors and booksellers will be doing readings. This is a multimedia project attempting to ‘bridge that gap between high, middle and low culture.’
Are your friends tired of hearing you cite that bullshit novel you’ve had in your head since forever? Then head over to Pitchapalooza at the Brooklyn Public Library where professionals can pretend to listen to your shit idea for 1 minute. If The Book Doctors deem your idea a winning one you get introduced to an agent or publisher. These folks have helped hundreds of writers get published, so this may be your big shot at being an actual writer instead of using it as a synonym for un- (or under) employment.
When: Wednesday Sept 19th 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
If you love Tony Danza (TONY FUCKIN’ DANZA!!!) like we do then you need to check out his event on September 23rd. Brooklyn borough president, Marty Markowitz will be interviewing Tony to understand how he keeps it so real. This will be at Borough Hall on the main stage.
Also on the 23rd, at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church there’s a panel on marriage and monogamy with famed gay, Dan Savage.
There’s lots more to see, check the website for more deets AND MAKE SURE YOU COME OUT TO OUR EVENT THIS THURSDAY, SPONSORED BY MAKE MAGAZINE!Tweet
