“I was just in shock he really did that,” Pagan told the Daily News. “I’m sure there are other kids who got the same treatment or worse treatment that wasn’t recorded.”
Video footage has surfaced documenting an NYC transit officer’s assault of a teenage boy in a Sunset Park subway station. 19 year old Sean Pagan had been detained under charges of graffiti, criminal mischief, and trespassing while en route to Coney Island this past Thursday. The arrest was documented by an on looking member of the La Casita Communal de Sunset Park community group, emphasizing Pagan’s immediate cooperation and eventual mistreatment.
Upon being frisked, Pagan had felt the arresting officer approach his genital region and squirmed instinctively. The slight bodily gesture was all it took to fuel the savage misconduct which would occur seconds later. Pagan can be seen dismounting the very advertisement he was forced upon as he is slammed violently to the ground and choked continually by the officer.
The footage concludes with the officer’s attempt at disclosing his name and badge number, only to have the badge itself tumble to the ground accidentally. The communal outrage surrounding Pagan’s harassment is a sentiment that we, as New Yorkers, must apply towards our demand of major police reform.
