It’s possible that we’re the only fans of shoegaze that don’t give a shit about this record. After waiting all night for a fix of the server crash that was brought on by the sudden release of M B V on Saturday, we paid our $16 for a download and sat down to hear what 20 years of studio work had bought us. Turns out that it bought a bland, second rate version of Loveless. Here is our second confession, we may also may be the only people who think Loveless sucks. The thought process goes that Isn’t Anything was the height of MBV’s songwriting and Loveless was awesome for the sound as opposed to the actual songs – which are sorta boring. Anyways, the new album will sound great as a backdrop for some Sophia Coppola movie and Kevin Shields made a ton of money. Other than that, we’re not sure there is anything more to say. Apparently a 20 year hiatus gets you songs with titles like ‘New You’ that sound like the B-side of a Happy Monday’s record.
