Sports have never been my area of expertise, but of course the Olympics are an essential global event at the intersection of international politics. As usual, Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of suppressing and denying the voices of Muslim women, and the religious extremists did not refrain from voicing their PIG-HEADED IGNORANCE even in the arena of international sporting competitions.
According to HuffPo: “The participation [in the Olympics games] of Saudi judo player Wojdan Ali Seraj Abdulrahim Shahrkhani … raised the scorn of the kingdom's ultraconservative Islamic clerics, who said she was dishonoring herself by fighting in front of men, including the male referee and judges.”
Once again, Saudi Arabian cleric NUTBAGS make Arabs look IGNORANT.
The fighter, who is around 18 years old, commented on the situation:
“There is a very fine line between religion and culture and customs. People are holding so tightly to customs and traditions and using Islam to defend them,” she said. In the end, the young heaviweight wore a modified version of a Hijab, sort of a cap, and did not win the match. But her very presence was a barrier-breaker for Muslim women and showed tremendous bravery. KICK ASS GIRL!
Another Arab woman who deserves our recognition is from Tunisia. (Remember kids, Tunisia is in North Africa, but is still considered an Arab country.)
Habiba Ghribi grabbed SILVER for the 3000m Steeplechase:
Another noteworthy is, poetically, Dana Abdul Razak of Iraq. Miss Razak competed in the 100m preliminary on August 3, coming in at 2nd place.
Coming from wartorn Iraq, Abdul Razak is no stranger to challenges: “I'm very ambitious, despite all the challenges I face in the streets,” she says. “If the street is blocked or there's shooting, I'll take a different road, because I want to reach new goals and move forward.”
ARAB WOMEN KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!
