Depending on what shady activities (or not) you have been up to, you may have people from your government trying to steal your e-mail account information and trying to look through your shit (AHEM…) for whatever reason. Recently, some users of GMail and Google Accounts have been reporting that they have been recieving quite ominous messages when they log into their e-mail.
Apparently, the warning above appears to some people who may be having some serious account takeover attempts against them. They aren’t a joke or a hoax of any kind, however. Google has officially responded to those who have become interested in this warning:
You might ask how we know this activity is state-sponsored. We can’t go into the details without giving away information that would be helpful to these bad actors, but our detailed analysis—as well as victim reports—strongly suggest the involvement of states or groups that are state-sponsored.
Basically, Google is trying to tell us that these government fucks are going out of their boundaries. Google has had a history of alternately siding with and going against the government, but it seems that in recent times, it has been more of the latter, as Google was one of the biggest and most powerful opponents against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). Are we now entering an age where the people we entrust with our information on the internet are actually trying to protect us? Is Google not that big, all-knowing evil organization that will give all of our dirty details away? Only time will tell. In the meantime, Google is your homie. (I’ve always known that GMail was the shit ever since the beta, yo.)Tweet
