Levi Mandel: ‘Kalkbrottet, Malmö’s Grand Canyon’

From the base of the quarry, deep, deep below street level, all sounds and sights of civilization seem to melt away; it feels like a mixture of Jurassic Park and Mars.

LEVI MANDEL: ‘Carly’s Broken Bones’

Words and photos from Levi Mandel I’ve got a friend named Carly who lives just across the water in Copenhagen. I met Carly in New York a few years ago. Although I adore my Scandinavian friends met here in Malmö, there is an element of comfort that can only be found in a familiar face, [...]

LEVI MANDEL: ‘Rotten Apple Rooftops NYC’

It’s too hot in the house, too late to go anywhere, and god knows you can’t drink in the streets with the boys in blue constantly on the prowl- so rooftops are the best place to hang out.

Paul Kwiatkowski’s ‘Acid Dancer’

Nicole never hung out. Normally she stayed cloistered inside her room. I secretly had a crush on her even though the few times I made contact with her, she referred to me as “one of her brother’s little friends” or, worse yet, “Worm”.

Nicole’s aspiration was to be a Rockette or a Vegas showgirl. I had no idea what either of those ambitions entailed other than being a hot leggy lady with lots of teeth that pranced around to Holiday show tunes with a bunch of other identical girls that were all, for whatever reason, marketed to the elderly.

LEVI MANDEL: ‘The Creation Museum, a Piece of Art in a World of Sin’

Last week we shared Levi Mandel‘s roadtrip photos from middle America. This week he’s got something even more American, a Creationist Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky that doesn’t allow gay people through the front door. The museum looks super creepy, and the dioramas depicting “evil things” that happen in a world without the bible are hilarious. [...]

A TRAVELOGUE OF 1990′S NEW YORK, THROUGH HIP-HOP VIDEOS

Take a trip into the New York of the 1990′s with these Hip-Hop videos shot in the dirty 5 Boroughs. Pop 40′s with the homies, smoke a blunt on the stoop and take a trip back in time; dope stuff.

CULTS OF NEW YORK CITY: OTO (ORDO TEMPLI ORIENTIS)

In New York I always feel amazed at how many parallel realities and uses of the city as an “arena” are simultaneously happening at once. The guy biking past you might be a weed messenger, the guy sitting on a bench might be an undercover cop, the dude standing right next to you on the train could be on his way to a nudist convention, and the guy at the coffee shop could be a member of a cult or secret society.
