come and watch us get goddamn destroyed, yeah?

This message is mostly for the four-hundred-and-twenty-million people who just came here through popular music website, brooklynvegan.com. (Not actually a website relevant to the interests of vegans who live in brooklyn.) If you’re looking for the Japanther show tickets, click the flyer.

Now you’re probably reading the flyer and being the Brooklyn aficionado blog reader you are, thinking to yourself “What’s this Party Expo?” That’s where the mystery deepens.

So it’s starting to look like we’re one of those “multimedia culture and art blogs,” right? Is that the picture your inquisitive, college-educated little mind is painting right now? We’ve pulled together some of the punkest and funniest peeps we know to make a superblog.. hence SUPERchief. Get it?

Don’t smugly smoke that cigarette at me. If you can’t tell we’re not the best website designers, but we’ve called in some outside people on the issue and we’ll have a real one soon. In the mean time, you’ve got the opportunity to “Get into us before we’re big” and have “been on superchief before it sold out.” It’s a little hard to navigate but if you try hard you might find some funny videos or something. Oh and read our super famous chatroulette article.

Yeah so, Brooklyn vegans and other internet stalkers, welcome to the sketchy party that is SUPERCHIEF. You’ll be seeing a lot more of us in the future. Still don’t believe the hype? Well okay, I guess Raekwon can vouch for us too..

peace jah one love

or maybe i’ll finally shoot something in the hallway of Dobbin.

dobbin hallway

gimme dat million dollars and i’ll do some shit that you’ll be happy is getting done.

Hey There, Stranger.

My name is Ed Zipco and I’m the Editor of SUPERCHIEF. And I love you. But that’s today, and before I can really feel alright moving forward and start making you know I love you, by making love to you, I’d like to give a short history lesson about yesterday, and working with one of my oldest friends, Andy Smith, on CHIEF.

A little over three years ago and on the other side of the world, Andy started a magazine with Hansi Raber and if memory serves, they called it Sasquatch Killah. For about a week. (It was a terrible name and Andy knew it, so he reached out to his college buddies and emails went out to the lot of us. Daryl, Alex, maybe even Jake got involved.) After a lot of talking back and forth, Andy went with CHIEF. And all was right in the world.

I was interviewed in the first issue of CHIEF for my photography and whore-mongering, along with other creatives we knew. It was fun as shit and for the second issue, I got on board and did some interviews myself. And before you knew it, Andy and I had teamed up to run that fucker in Brooklyn.

We rented a bare loft at Dobbin Street, built rooms that were hung from the ceiling, threw epic 250 person house parties to pay the rent and almost got evicted after our 3rd month. Then we took a breath, got back to the magazine, hired a staff, and started interviewing artists and bands and anything that could hold our interest. (I can’t thank the staff enough, Jacque, Stephanie, Amanda, Dylan, Steve, Nick, Alex, Julie, Mariel, Andrea, and about 20 others whose names are making the weed clouds in my brain frustrated to say the least. Comment those names and I’ll fix the post! Fuck!)

Fast forward a year, we start a record label- Chief Records- and sign our buddies Ninjasonik. Fast forward 6 months later, we opened a underground venue –Chief Bodega- in a burnt out old Bodega that had once doubled as a heroin den in Bushwick.

As fast as it got fun, which was from the start, shit got gnarly. (Welcome to how Andy and I live our lives and why we teamed up in the first place.) Enter: lots of drugs, lots of cops, lots of girls- yes ma’am, lots of blood, oh and lots of underage people doing overage things and boom. We almost lost it all. It almost killed us. Luckily, in the end, we sold Bodega for an incredible amount of money and took stock of our lives and the burdens that we put upon ourselves for no reason other than blind ambition.

In the aftermath of everything, Andy and I needed to figure out what the hell we want to do with the rest of our days. Andy has always been a gifted writer, so he started thinking about his next book, {btw, the first one is like a pint of beer became a person and told you some randy stories about getting ass the fast way, its FUN to read} as well as finishing up his Master’s in Publishing at NYU. He decided that was when a sane man would say “that’s enough on my plate”, with the random project here and there to spice it up. So with that, Andy started moving away from Chief and towards some peace of mind.

As far as me, I decided that the thing I wanted more than anything, was to work with my friends on fun/dangerous/crazy shit every single day. I wanted to start projects that were bigger than myself and get by with the skin of my teeth. I wanted the stress of taking on more than i can handle. I wanted new scars from doing shit that I still have nightmares about surviving. In essence, I wanted CHIEF. But, because CHIEF was always “The Ed and Andy Show” there had to be a change of the guard. There needed to be a new name. It’s the only way that would respect both Andy and myself, allowing us both to move forward and not attack each other, on sight, in the street. (Which we WOULD do. We’re fucking animals and we goddamn live it.)

So I did a lot of soul searching and then when I was whacked out of my fucking head on opium one night, I remembered MARIO BROS. And how when Nintendo was gonna come back into the world swinging, they came out with SUPER MARIO BROS. and that was all I needed. I bought the domain name immediately.

Its called SUPERCHIEF.TV

And it’s going to make hot, fast love to you today and tomorrow and the next day. Pretty fucking cool, huh?

Good talk,

-Ed Zipco
