Shit I’m Digging: Javelin

November 23rd, 2009

The great prophet Wesley Willis once said “I like to rock, I like to roll.” Well put man, so do I. I also have a deep love/soft spot for all that synth-y, electro danceable stuff, and no I’m not talking about La Bouche, or any of that Jock Jams shit, it’s like Nu Shooz- anyone remember Nu Shooz except me? Whatever. There are quite a few bands coming out now that have that described sensibility, and are building on top of it with crazy samples, distortion, drum beats, one of which is Javelin, a Brooklyn duo by way of Providence. Already out with a 7″  and a mix tape that makes listening to seagulls cool, they’re playing Bowery Ballroom December 11th, and Death by Audio December 17th.  Oh and they just came out with 12″ where they hand screen printed the covers–oh yea, each is unique. You can download their 12″ tracks here. Get it for your Grandma, your closeted cousin, that kid you babysit who wears a cape, they’ll all thank you.
