CHICKENMAN’S PUNK NEWS #1

March 15th, 2010

People who read the punkest blog in the world might have heard of my good friend, Mike Chickenman. If you’ve been to a punk show in the tri-state area you’ve probably seen him around, or been present for some of his famous punk rock hijinks.

If you’re like me he threw up on your shoe, fell asleep on the floor and then got arrested. I’m not sure if he’s much of an activist or anything, but he has definitely been to more shows in New York than Vinnie Stigma.

Anyway here’s the first installment of,

Hi everyone!

This Friday May 1st everyone should go to Club Europa in Brooklyn to see the STAR FUCKING HIPSTERS, they are fucking amazing.

I am going back to Club Europa for the first time since I got banned. About two years ago I went to go see the world/inferno friendship society play there and I was pretty drunk. I had been drinking beer and brandy then it was time to go into the show!!

Before I went in, I took this little pepper and drew on a face on it. I called it Sgt. Pepper and I took him into the show with me. The Measure (sa) played first. They are one of my favorite bands from New Jersey, and this was the first time I saw them. So, I got really stoked and ran up on the stage during the first song. I had Sgt. Pepper and I did an amazing stage dive but NOBODY CAUGHT ME! I fell but I didn’t want to hurt myself so I put the pepper in front of my face to block the fall but OH MY GOD THE PEPPER EXPLODED AND I WAS BLINDED BY HOT PEPPER JUICE!

Then, within minutes, I was picked up off my feet and thrown out of the club by a cowboy. I don’t know who the hell the cowboy was but I had a huge fight with the bouncer and the owner. They told me I was banned, and I have been ever since. I am going back this Friday for Star Fucking Hipsters because they are GREAT and their album, Until We’re Dead rules!

Check them out, www.myspace.com/starfuckinghipsters, and wish me luck getting in!

When I first met Mike he was wearing bronze makeup with a mohawk and was covered in milkshake. His constant is his dedication to punk shows, and more importantly having as much fun as he possibly can at everything, even if it’s spoken word or a boring acoustic show. I sat down with Mike and tried to get a little insight into the workings of a Bronx native message board gossip who knows basically everyone in the city.

So Mike, how many years have you been going to shows?
Forever. Since, 2004 or longer. Maybe since 2003 but way before that if you count Green Day. Actually I have been going to shows forever. Anyway I gotta split!

Wait man, let me interview you for like, three questions. How many shows would you say you’ve been to?
Too many, I don’t really keep track. I can’t begin to take a stab at it but hundreds if not a thousand by now. I usually sneak in if it’s too much money.

Oh so what’s your favorite band now, Leftover Crack?
FUCK NO. It’s Green Day. I love Green Day and they have always been my favorite band.

When did you first hear them?
It was Dookie in 94′ or 95′, my life changed.

Alright I will let you go for now. First, what’s your favorite Green Day memory?
Hmmm. Seeing them on Last Call with Carson Daily was amazing. I was there and saw them in person. I was very close to them. I peed myself and I caught Tre Cool’s drumstick, but an old lady stole it from me. I had a fight with her for it but I didn’t get it from that dumb bitch. I spoke to Mike Dirnt for a little tiny bit, but not as long as I wanted to. I think my best moment will be at the record release show. It’s scheduled for May 18 but who knows.
